In the new book Cultural Policies in Europe: A Participatory Turn?, several of Europe’s leading specialists in the field seek to clarify the meaning, potentialities and limits of the participatory experience in cultural policies.
The authors examine the role of participation not as a concept, but as a process that forms and informs cultural policy. Several themes are addressed in the first part, for example the role participation plays in different national contexts from both a country specific viewpoint and a comparative perspective, for which the Compendium was used as a resource.
In the second part of the book, contributions focus on how participation effects the interaction between arts, culture and policy issues. This of course includes a reflection of participation in regard to the current pandemic. What experiences, recipes, threats, and new opportunities have marked the cultural field?
The book is edited by Félix Dupin-Meynard and Emmanuel Négrier. It also contains contributions by former Compendium expert author Lluís Bonet and current expert authors Anna Villarroya and Milena Dragićević Šešić. The publication is available here.
