A very warm welcome to the newest member of the Compendium Association. This year, the Ministry for Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan joined our community as a stakeholder member.
Azerbaijan has a long tradition and history with the Compendium.
In 2000, only two years after the creation of the Compendium by the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for Culture, Azerbaijan already participated to the Compendium as a transnational project and delivered a first national cultural policy profile for Azerbaijan.
As the Ministry for Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan encourages, on a continuing basis, trans-national co-operation of actors in fields such as cultural policy, heritage protection, theatre, dance, film, music, etc. it felt also very committed to the Compendium project and has always seen it as a good instrument for cooperation and development in the field of cultural policy.
An example for Azerbaijan’s support is the 10th anniversary meeting of the Compendium which was held in Baku on 4-5 December 2008, with the participation of over 100 eminent researchers from the Council of Europe countries and ISESCO area, offering an important opportunity for the promotion of intercultural dialogue and examining new opportunities for future trans-national co-operation.
