A new short cultural policy profile for Belgium (Flanders) is now available on the Compendium website. A special thanks goes out to our expert for Belgium (Flanders) Simon Leenknegt.
Below you can see a few highlights of the cultural policy developments in Belgium (Flanders):
- Cultural organisations keep signaling difficulties in coping with the repercussions of inflation and other crises, despite an increase in government expenditure on the arts.
- Fair practices like the fair practice charter and the toolbox Juist is Juist aim to create conditions for fair pay, safe and decent working conditions, transparency, shared responsibilities, and solidarity.
- The 2021 modified Arts Decree offers a framework for supporting the professional arts, through short-term project funding and multi-year subsidies. The Decree has seen an increase in the budget for multi-year subsidies from 2023 onwards after a decade of stagnation and budget cuts.
