In July 2023, Vasiliki Kassianidou took over the position as Deputy Minister of Culture in Cyprus after the resignation of her predecessor Michalis Hadjiyiannis.
Cultural Policy objectives of the new Deputy Minister of Culture are the introduction of a youth card and a bill to regulate the status of artists, as well as overseeing the completion of the construction of the New Cyprus Museum.
Additionally the taxation of donations (that is, being able to make a donation to culture which is tax-deductible), the upgrading and support of culture through festivals and theatre, the ‘Thymeli’ scheme, as well as the promotion of culture in all sectors are envisaged. She also highlighted the potential impact of culture on the local economy, citing tourism as an example.
