An updated version of the short cultural policy profile for Germany is now available on the Compendium website. A special thanks goes out to our German expert and Head of the Compendium Coordinator Team Ulrike Blumenreich for compiling the profile.
Below, you can see a few highlights of the cultural policy developments in Germany:
- To mitigate the effects of the energy crisis on the cultural sector, a “Kulturfonds Energie” was launched in March 2023, with a budget of up to 1 billion euros.
- A “Culture Pass” was launched in June 2023, offering all young people turning 18 in 2023 a €200 grant to spend on cultural products and activities.
- In July 2022, Germany and Nigeria signed a joint political declaration on the restitution of the Benin bronzes and bilateral museum cooperation.
- In 2021, the German government made more than 2.3 billion euros available for its foreign cultural and educational policy.
