An new short cultural policy profile for France is now available on the Compendium website. A special thanks goes out to our French experts Thomas Perrin and Jean-Cédric Delvainquière for compiling the profile.
Below, you can see a few highlights of the cultural policy developments in France:
- The audiovisual licence fee was abolished in 2022
- The provisional budget of the Ministry of Culture for 2024 of 4.6 billion euros is an increase of 5% compared to 2023
- From 2023, three laws are to be passed to simplify procedures on the return of foreign cultural objects, on the restitution of human remains held in museums and on the restitution of Jewish property looted during the Second World War
- The government is currently working on a bill to secure and regulate the digital space in harmony with the EU Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act adopted in 2022
