Below, you can see a few highlights of the cultural policy developments in the Netherlands:
-
Public spending on culture in the Netherlands increased by more than 30% between 2017 and 2021, mainly due to a doubling of state government spending.
- The Netherlands has announced that it will adopt the Faro Convention by the end of 2023.
- Important issues that have been addressed in the field of cultural policy over the last years include the cultural labour market, cultural participation, regionalisation, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Creating more awareness regarding the costs of fair pay in the labour market and appealing more to solidarity amongst cultural workers and their contractors is an important issue of the Dutch cultural policy.
