It is often not that easy to keep track of all the cultural policy conferences and events taking place around the world. For this reason, we are bringing you a summary of some of the events that have taken place recently or will take place this spring.
The World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, organised by UNESCO and hosted by the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi (13-15 February 2024), brought together nearly 1,000 culture and education stakeholders – including 90 ministers, 125 representatives of UNESCO Member States, policymakers, experts and NGOs, as well as UN agencies, academia and the private sector. As a major outcome of the World Conference, UNESCO Member States unanimously adopted a new Global Framework for Culture and Arts Education, reinforcing their commitment to integrated approaches to culture and education.
As part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and the Media is organising a two-day conference entitled “Unity in Diversity? Culture, Heritage and Identity in Europe” on 15 and 16 April in Antwerp, Belgium. One of the key questions will be how culture and heritage contribute to the formation and expression of identity, and what challenges and opportunities this presents. From 22nd to 25th April ENCATC, a European network on cultrual management and policy, is launching its 2024 Academy on Sustainable Cultural Policy and Management in Lille, France. Among other things, participants will be able to learn about the latest advances in sustainable cultural policy and management and will gain awareness of the multiple dimensions of sustainability in culture.
