What’s the Situation of Freedom of Artistic Expression in Europe – Compendium Survey Results
The Compendium sees its responsibility in sharing important information and elements for an effective cultural policy and a flourishing cultural and creative environment!
For this reason, the Compendium and its community of experts have investigated the question:
What is the Situation of Freedom of Artistic Expression in Europe?
In a survey consisting of 27 questions, Compendium experts from 35 countries addressed the question and provided interesting insights into the topic.
Being part of a Compendium Campaign on Barriers to Freedom of Artistic Expression, the key findings of the Compendium Survey are as follows:
-
The legal framework for FoAE is essentially in place but there is still room for improvement in its implementation
-
The topic of FoAE and as an essential part of cultural policy is given varying degrees of importance from country to country (social or policy discourse)
-
Based on the survey, the current situation of FoAE in Europe is assessed as quite good, but this situation has deteriorated over the last 5 years. There is therefore a continuous need for awareness raising!
-
The survey reflects the impression that the political climate and censorship in particular hinder the free development of FoAE and that these issues have become an increasing obstacle over the last 5 years.
You can read more about the individual questions and insights in the survey report.
We intend to realise such a survey in the future on a larger scale (including more countries outside the EU and involving more experts) to give this important topic its due place.
