The results of the Compendium Survey on Freedom of Artistic Expression revealed certain barriers to this important cultural right in several European countries.
Like all rights, cultural rights also require constant awareness of their importance and a responsibility to analyse the current status of such rights.
Our valuable Compendium colleagues from Spain and chair of the Compendium Association, Anna Villarroya from the University of Barcelona, and Pedro Rothstein, from the Queen Mary University of London, illustrate in their article “The integration of cultural rights in Spanish cultural policies” that Spain and its cultural policies in this context can be seen as a good example of such a responsible approach regarding cultural rights.
Because as mentioned in the article cultural rights can function as antidotes against the political divisions stoked by the so-called cultural wars that are spread and amplified by Far Right movements not only in Spain but across the world.
