Culture Action Europe (CAE) just published the State of Culture Report.
This initiative focuses on non-academic policy research that examines the framing of culture’s role and value within national and European cultural policies.
The report or at least the summary is a must read for all those interested in cultural policies in Europe as it is bringing together important elements of critical reflection, observations and advocacy.
It emphasizes the importance of fostering a cultural and creative environment supported by proactive rather than reactive cultural policies.
Here a few key messages of the report which the Compendium also values:
- Culture is about embodying what it means to be a society – a collective with a voice and power – rather than just a group of individual voters or consumers.
- Valuing culture solely through external needs and goals can only be a survival tactic, not a sustainable strategy
- The plurality of culture lends it legitimacy as a genuine social good, and without this plurality it risks becoming the source of further polarisation of society or a political tool.
- Recognising human creativity means acknowledging that diverse, pluralistic and free human expression is essential for shaping our collective future and advancing as a society
As CAE and the Compendium Association are cooperating in the framework of a mutual membership and the Compendium community is very grateful for this important initiative and fully support it.
