On the 1st of April, the Council of Europe held a conference of ministers of culture talking about “Creating our Future: Creativity and cultural heritage as strategic resources for a diverse and democratic Europe.” The conference focused upon current challenges and crises, such as health, climate change, biodiversity loss, technological challenges, as well as democratic, economic and social inequalities.
“In order to successfully address these challenges a cultural shift in society is required. The value and the potential of culture, creativity and cultural heritage is crucial in this endeavour, although it remains underestimated and underexploited. It is high time to emphasise this unique capacity of culture to nurture open, healthy, pluralistic, diverse, successful societies and stable, well-functioning democracies, while enhancing the overall quality of life of people in a constantly evolving society, economy and environment.”
