We have updated our COVID-19 reports from Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. In all three countries, cultural venues and institutions are gradually opening their doors again. At the same time, financial measures are being announced, expanded or developed further. The Austrian Government is currently preparing a bridge fund of EUR 90 million for the self-employed, which will also ease the financial situation of freelance artists. This past week, we received updates for our COVID-19 reports from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania and Serbia. While governments are slowly alleviating pandemic restrictions, new measures are still being launched in order to recover the arts and culture sector. In Austria, the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport increased subsidies by EUR 3,1 million for the Austrian film sector, the publishing sector, the Austrian Music Fund, and art acquisitions. These country reports, written by our expert authors, have helped us monitor developments while placing them within the larger context of cultural policy in different countries. We have revived our short profiles section with the publication of a short cultural policy profile of Lithuania. This short profile is the first to follow a new structure and more (updated) short profiles will be developed soon. In 2017, the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends started publishing short cultural policy profiles. These documents aim to summarise the cultural policy profiles from the database and give a quick overview of the most important elements of a country’s cultural policy and related developments. Our COVID-19 reports from Finland, the Netherlands and Romania have been updated this week. In Romania, there are many societal initiatives to support the cultural sector in addition to the announced governmental measures. An example is the Pay the rent of an independent actor platform, which calls upon citizens to donate to independent actors that lost their income due to the current crisis. On Monday May 11th, the state financed culture funds of the Netherlands announced they will make EUR 15 million available for makers and institutions.
